I would like to invite Ian Lucas MP to the following event to show his support to disabled people in these worrying times:
2 – 4pm – Monday 5th September
Committee Room 21, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA
Speakers: Cherylee Houston (actor and independent living campaigner), Jonathan Bartley (co-leader of the Green Party), Mark Harrison (Equal Lives), Kevin Caulfield (hafcac and former ILF recipient), Kate Whittaker and Mitchell Woolf (Scott Moncrieff solicitors), John McDonnell (tbc), Debbie Abrahams (tbc).
The Independent Living Fund (ILF) was shut permanently on 30 June 2015. Disabled people receiving support through the ILF who are all too familiar with the day to day realities of the mainstream care and support system, were concerned that closing the ILF would mean a removal of essential support.
The report “One Year On” from Inclusion London seeks to evidence the impact of the closure and what the experiences of former ILF recipients tell us about the implementation of the Care Act 2014.
There will be speeches and contributions from 2 – 3.30pm and then time for informal networking and 3.30 – 4pm.
This event is part of the #RightNotGames week of action organised by Disabled People Against Cuts.
