Postcard #2 Received

Postcard #2 Received

Last night I received my second postcard from End to End after recording 70 miles of my trip along Route 66. I have copied the text in the email below so that my readers can follow the story of my trip. I have also linked this paragraph to the End to End website which I encourage everyone to look at. As I continue to chip away at my virtual journey along Route 66, I also wonder if I can count on your support and encouragement by sponsoring me. My JustGiving page is linked to at the bottom of this page.

This is great!

You’re just outside Braidwood, named for James Braidwood whose surname like Broadwood, Bradwood and Braiduode is a Scottish one, from the village of Braidwood in the parish of Avondale, in the county of Lanarkshire.

If you’re looking for a 1950s-style diner to enjoy some burgers, malts and fries, this is the place to stop and eat, the famous Polk A Dot Drive In. This restaurant opened in 1956 by Chester “Chet” Fife. It got its name (Polk-A-Dot Drive In) from a school-bus covered with multicolored polka dots. Don’t miss the fiberglass figures of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Boop and James Dean.

If you’re a history fan, this town is known for the 1883 Diamond Mine Disaster Historic Marker.

I will carry on cycling and see where I end up next. In the meantime you can sponsor me on my trek along Route 66 in aid of Ataxia UK by clicking here.
