Wrexham: A Complete Record, 1873-1992

Wrexham: A Complete Record, 1873-1992

As regular readers will know, I am writing a book on Wrexham AFC that I hope to have published by Xmas. As the countdown to publication begins I have decided to look back at the other Wrexham AFC titles that are available. Many of these books have been a fantastic source of information to me whilst researching the volume created by myself.

Written by official club historian Pete Jones, this information-packed volume was the first definitive history of the football club. It doesn’t fail to impress.

This book was a gift for my 15th birthday from my Mum and Dad. They knew I was happy with football statistics after I spent months on end studying old editions of Rothmans Yearbooks. I remember having a right strop in Llandudno one sunny afternoon as my dad wouldn’t let me buy a used copy of the 1983/84 copy of Rothmans.

He tried to lift me out of my mood by offering to buy me a pen knife, thinking that this would appeal to my male instincts. Unfortunately, I was never into climbing trees or interested in becoming a scout. That was for gaylords. I just wanted to read and soak up as much information as I possibly could about things that interested me. I got my own way in the end of course.

As an extra treat, my mum got this book signed for me by Mickey Thomas, Waynne Phillips, Steve Watkin and Joey Jones. If memory serves me well, I think the players were in WHSmith for a book signing. This made it an even more precious copy, although it is now looking tired after pawing through it countless times in researching the book I have written.

I may have had a few disagreements with Pete Jones during his time on the Board of the Wrexham Supporters Trust, but this doesn’t mean that I have ever stopped respecting his work as the ultimate boffin on the club that we both love. His knowledge is impressive and you would want him in your corner if you were ever forced to take part in a quiz on Wrexham AFC.

The book is a statisticians dream with comprehensive coverage of everything from managers, players, season guides, attendances, goalscorers and so much more. It is the ultimate starting point for anyone wishing to find out more about the club.

Introducing my Buy Me a Coffee page. This is an online space for people such as myself and, indeed, anyone with an audience – Youtubers, musicians, podcasters, writers, programmers, nonprofits, cosplayers, you name it…

This is an excellent idea to give creators an extra source of income, without asking for an outlandish financial commitment during these tough economic times.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated and used to positive effect, even if I don’t drink coffee in everyday life. Virtually, I can’t get enough of the stuff, so what are you waiting for?
