At the end of August 1983, teams from Divisions Three and Four took part in the Milk Cup First Round, First Leg. Fast-forward to the modern era, and clubs are competing in the Carabao Cup, which is obviously being affected by the Coronavirus crisis, and the subsequent lack of interest. Yesterday, I struggled to keep my eyes open as Derby County edged past Barrow on penalties, after only ninety minutes of drab action in front of an empty stadium.
I much prefer focusing on August 1983, as clubs still had a second-leg to try to overturn any first-leg deficit. How many of these clubs managed to record such a comeback, will be revealed when the second-leg results are published a week tomorrow.
