A Night at the Theatr

A Night at the Theatr

Last night I went to Theatr Clwyd in Mold to watch a stage production of Rita, Sue and Bob Too. It was good fun and an enjoyable way to spend an evening with excellent performances throughout.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the story, it is a rather risqué 80 minutes that includes copious amounts of swearing and sexual explicit scenes. This is not to everyone’s tastes and there were a few prudes in the audience last night who stormed out after 10 minutes. If I had written this play and someone was so offended that they walked out of the production I would take this as a massive compliment. Surely, the aim of any art is to provoke a reaction – good or bad. It seems to me that the fuddy duddies should have expected some shocking scenes as it is clear from the flyers and website that the show contains provocative material.

I wish the cast good luck with all the rest of the tour. If you are in the area and fancy catching this show you can book tickets here

Out of Joint
, Octagon Theatre Bolton and the Royal Court Theatre present Rita, Sue and Bob Too by Andrea Dunbar.

“Do you think it would be better if you and me got ourselves steady boyfriends?”

Best friends Rita and Sue get a lift home from married Bob after babysitting his kids. When he takes the scenic route and offers them a bit of fun, the three start a fling each of them think they control. Andrea Dunbar’s semi-autobiographical play, written when she was just 19, is a vivid portrait of girls caught between brutal childhood and an unpromising future, both hungry for adult adventure.

Told with wicked humour, startling insight and a great ear for dialogue, Rita Sue and Bob Too was adapted into a hit 80s film. See this major new production, following a run at the Royal Court Theatre, directed by Kate Wasserberg following her hugely successful production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice here
