Unwelcome Visitor

According to Wikipedia, Tanka (短歌, “short poem”?) is a genre of classical Japanese poetry and one of the major genres of Japanese literature.  Below you can read the 16th of my 2017 poems.

The aim is to write as many of these poems as possible to build a comprehensive picture of life with a disability in 21st century Britain.

You will not disturb

My normal carefree routine

To tick the right box

While I want to scream and shout

I won’t be objectified

There was a knock on my door during the afternoon.  I was alone and hoping that one of my female fans had seen my appearance on Channel 4 News and decided that they couldn’t live without me.

I opened the door to find a Hattie Jacques type character informing me that the district nurse team needed to check my bum for pressure sores.

Now there are ways and means of approaching me to get me onside but to come into my house and stripping me of control by telling me what is going to happen, is not a good tactic.

I’m not expecting her to return anytime soon.
