According to Wikipedia, Tanka (短歌, “short poem”?) is a genre of classical Japanese poetry and one of the major genres of Japanese literature. Below you can read the second of my 2017 poems.
Syllables are what I am having a problem with at the moment. I really struggle sometimes with the construction of language as I am much better with the aesthetics. This is why I am hopeless at Countdown, crosswords and Scrabble, but can wax lyrical for hours. If you notice that any of my poems do not fit in to the 5-7-5-7-7 syllable structure, please do let me know as I tend to combine syllables into one simple sound due to the way I talk.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Let down, feeling low
Plans derailed, paused
The darkness descends
A gentle knock at the door
Hope delivers a star
