One Giant Hoot for Owlkind by Vicky Scott

One Giant Hoot for Owlkind by Vicky Scott

On September the 19th, I was rolling around Birmingham City Centre searching for the fibreglass owls that make up The Big Hoot trail. One I found was number 6: One Giant Hoot for Owlkind by Vicky Scott.

Vicky Scott is a freelance artist and illustrator from London, who has recently moved to Brighton.  Over the last few years, she has worked on a diverse range of projects – Christmas cards, an album cover design for the band Stereovenus (featuring the singer, Rumer), and huge paintings for The Elephant Family in their 2010, 2012 and 2013 projects (where she painted designs onto models of a baby elephant and a giant Easter egg). These designs were both auctioned off for charity, raising thousands of pounds for the Asian elephant and children’s charities in the UK.

Vicky describes her style as graphic, colourful, fun-filled, nostalgic and quirky.  She finds her inspiration in a variety of places, including: the everyday, nature, humour, stylish Art Deco designs and the wallpapers of William Morris.  Her illustrations are created using a variety of techniques, such as pencil drawing, paper collage, paint and Photoshop. They always maintain the same eye-catching and uplifting feel.
