On September the 14th, I was travelling around South Birmingham searching for the fibreglass owls that make up The Big Hoot trail. One I found was number 83: Owl of Athena by Karoline Rerrie.

Karoline Rerrie is an illustrator who creates images by hand using drawing, painting and screen printing. She sees her work as a craft and tries to maintain a handmade element. Her work is characterised by the use of bold outlines, pattern and bright colours and it is inspired by folk art from around the world.
Collaboration and participation are important elements of Karoline’s creative practice. She co-ordinates group exhibitions and the publication of limited-edition postcard books, fanzines and colouring books, featuring her artwork and that of other women illustrators. Karoline also has 20 years of experience of facilitating workshops in different settings, including schools, galleries and libraries. She works with a wide range of ages and abilities, including children, young people, adults and people with learning disabilities.
